Yeah, it’s actually there at https://discordapp.com/terms

By uploading, distributing, transmitting or otherwise using Your Content with the Service, you grant to us a perpetual, nonexclusive, transferable, royalty-free, sublicensable, and worldwide license to use, host, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, and display Your Content in connection with operating and providing the Service.

propanenightmares

you…. you do realize they NEED these terms…… so that they can host images……. and let ppl see what you send……… right…………

Incapable of holding all knowledge, I did not! I was hopeful someone might be clear it up but I was also hopeful that it was possible to be polite about such things. Can’t win all the time, I guess!

tyson-ot-nw

perpetual - So they don’t have to set up some sort of content expiration scheme.

nonexclusive - so you can post it elsewhere and potentially sell it.  If anyone asks for exclusive access be very very sure you are getting paid.

transferable - If they get bought by another company they don’t have to wipe all content.

royalty-free - They are not paying you to use their service to host your content

sublicensable - so they can have a 3rd party (like Amazon EC2) do the actual hosting, or provide another service with that content, like chat bots, giphy, etc.

worldwide license - They don’t have to geolock it

to use - Blanket right to use in their app

to host - Otherwise everything has to be externally linked

reproduce,  publish, translate, distribute, perform, and display - Every time someone views the content it is being reproduced because that is the nature of the web.

modify, adapt, create derivative works from  - Resize, transcode, change formatting, make thumbnails, etc.

in connection with operating and providing the Service. - Limits these abilities for the sole purposes of being used in the app.  Excludes their use in advertising, selling their own copy of stuff, or claiming any sort of ownership outside of the Discord app.

I hope that helps.  Legalese can be a little bit daunting but if you know what to look for, like nonexclusive and “ in connection with operating and providing the Service“ you can put your concerns to rest.

this is why I love this joke:

Jesus was fond of telling his followers not to worry about how they’d afford food tomorrow because God would provide. But Jesus told them this while handing out free bread and encouraging them to help people who were in need, making them the outlet through which God would provide for others

My mother was a waitress, we live in an area that has a lot of Christians and people would often stiff her on tips. Instead they’d leave a pamphlet with quotes from Jesus saying not to worry because God would provide

Jesus’ message was never that God would magically put food on people’s tables. God would provide opportunities to help each other, like the boat captains offering to help the dying man. That only works if people actually help each other

When I first heard this joke as a teenager I laughed at the guy who didn’t take the help that was offered to him. As an adult, I think of all the Christian politicians who vote against food stamps and I want to tell them “You were the boat captain but you steered away from the man in need instead of offering him help. Is that really what God wanted you to do?”

dear tweens and teens: please dont equate “self care” with buying a bunch of useless shit because some shill account on instagram told you to. any type of “self care” that involves consumerism is snake oil and a better way to care for yourself and build your personal self worth is through self actualizing activities i.e. go make art, go plant trees, go volunteer for a food bank, go organize!!!

i understand the historical reasons why English is the most common language

but if I was writing a speculative fiction novel

and I said “the language that most people learn as a second language, usually for professional reasons, is also the only one with a spelling system so terrible that spelling words correctly is a broadcasted competition

you’d be like “extremely unrealistic 0/10”

theangelshavethetimeturner

i never thought of this, do other languages not have spelling bees?

asideofkimchi asked:

Hello Joy! I also have considered starting the discworld series, and the only book I own from it is Mort, which you conveniently said is the start of the Death arc. If it’s not too much trouble, could you let me know the rest of the books in that specific arc, and also if you think there’s an order to reading them? Thank you!

thebibliosphere answered:

I can do one better, and I can link from the official source!

https://www.terrypratchettbooks.com/types/discworld-by-character/

The Terry Pratchett book site lets you break them up into either chronological order, by character (series) and also by age of reader.

The Death series starts with Mort, followed by Reaper Man, Soul Music, Hogfather and finally Thief of Time.

Death himself is also a frequent and recurring friendly face throughout most of the other books as well.

My roommate just described adderall as an upper and not as an adhd med while on the phone with someone and like…

Listen. I’m not about to shame every drug user in the world I’ve toked that good herb I come from a family of addicts I get it

But for the love of good stay away from adhd meds.

You know what happens when adderall becomes the big party drug? The drug students without adhd abuse to get their homework done? It makes it harder for people with adhd to get the prescription

I was once denied my meds because I looked like a suspicious drug using kid. Meds I needed to keep my life together!! I’m unmedicated right now because of financial reasons and let me tell you it sucks I wake up way too late, I forget things, my moods are all out of whack, I cant focus, I have trouble socializing, my grades have gone down.

When you abuse ritalin and adderall you raise the price and the suspicion of doctors and pharmacists that people with adhd who need their meds might actually be drug seekers and its UNFAIR that you guys are taking the meds that just barely even me out and becoming super processing machines getting your shit down ultra fast while I take the punishment.

Find a different drug I dont care what at this point, but stop doing stuff that gets people with adhd glared at in the pharmacy line needing 3 kinds of ID just to pick up their script.

bananacracker33

I have adhd, but id like to make a point that people with narcolepsy have the same medication. And they have to go through a lot of testing to get properly medicated for it. Its just another person to consider.

^^^^ yep good addition

When I was in law school, I finally got to the point where none of my coping strategies worked anymore and I needed help. The psychologist at the counseling center tested me and told me I absolutely have inattentive-type ADHD but he wasn’t even going to refer me for the testing I’d need to get meds. The abuse situation on campus was such that it was a six month wait before I could even start medication, and I’d have graduated or flunked by then. I never have gotten any medication, between one thing and another, and my life is worse for it.

actuallylorelaigilmore

I’ll be 34 next week and have struggled with ADHD symptoms since childhood. Growing up female in a rural community in the 90s, I flew under the radar of what needing help looks like. I failed out of university after freshman year. I’ve had a diagnosis for combined-type ADHD since my late 20s and began seeking treatment even earlier than that, but no matter what I do, I can’t get access to a medication that might help me. Just in my last city before we moved, I saw my regular doctor, was referred to a therapist in order to move on to someone able to prescribe, and saw that therapist as required–only to be told that the prescribing doctor wasn’t comfortable treating me and I would need to find an entirely new healthcare group if I really wanted help.

lowkey pissed that so many parents are against getting their kid an ADHD diagnosis cuz they’re scared of ADHD meds, and by lowkey I mean highkey because

1) you don’t have to take meds if you get diagnosed with ADHD

2) meds work for a lot of people with ADHD and make them feel internally calmer/more in control of themselves

3) you want your child to be as healthy as they can be, so why would you ignore your child’s mental heath just because you’re scared of it?

adhdemiman

Also, the “I don’t want him to be labelled!” crowd.

He will be labelled. He’ll be labelled as stupid, lazy, crazy, childish, immature, sensitive, and weird. By his peers, his teachers, his bosses, and by himself.

Or, you could give him a framework for better understanding himself. A neutral label.

spongebob-autisticquestions

Don’t dismiss it just because you’re scared! Ignoring their mental health will do nothing good

theconcealedweapon

At least if they’re labeled with the name of a disability, they’ll know why they struggle, which could allow them to figure out a solution. If they’re labeled as stupid, lazy, or weird, they won’t know why, so they won’t be able to fix it.
